Does the hospital have any accreditation?

SSMH have a firm focus towards quality accreditation and patient safety. We have an accreditation from National Accreditation Board of Hospitals (NABH).


How do I schedule an appointment with a specialist at SSMH?

What should I carry for my first appointment?

Here is the checklist of items you should carry for your first visit :-

  • List of symptoms you have been having and its characteristics such as how long has it been, what does it entail, etc.
  • Any recent medical reports (<1 year) such as blood test reports, radiological reports (ultrasound, X-Ray, etc.)
  • Prescription papers of any existing medical conditions, and related medical information including current medication.
  • Information about your family (Family history of any ailments like diabetes, hypertension etc.)

Will there be a requirement of providing advance at the time of admission?

An advance is usually collected at the time of the patient’s admission to cover his estimated hospital expenses. The amount depends on the type of treatment/surgery and also the class of Room selected for stay.


Are the consultants available 24 hours?

All our consultants are full – time employees of the hospital. We have junior and senior resident doctors present in shifts offering 24 x 7 coverage in intensive care unit and postoperative recovery areas. Any complaints in the odd hours are first attended to by the resident doctors and, depending upon the case, the respective consultants are called in to attend to the patients.


Are visitors permitted and how many visitors are permitted?

For patient safety and comfort we permit visitors only between 10 AM – 12 PM and 2 PM – 4 PM on all days.

To minimise crowding and noise in the patient care area, only one visitor per patient is allowed.


What is the system of billing?

Billing is done on 24 hour basis.


How do I get a discharge summary?

Your discharge card along with your investigation reports and other documents will be given to you by the nursing staff at the time of the discharge. At that time you will also be explained about your follow up visits with your consultant.


What about tips?

We do not encourage this practice and if you would like to contribute for our staff’s welfare, you can do through the donation box provided at the reception.

What will be the lifestyle changes post – surgery?

Lifestyle changes post surgery depends upon the surgery that you are undergoing but in general:

  • Taking diets properly and at proper intervals
  • Force yourself to drink lots of water
  • Avoid spicy food
  • Focus on reducing weight  

What is laparoscopy?

Laparoscopy is a surgical diagnostic procedure used to examine the organs inside the abdomen. It’s a low-risk, minimally invasive procedure that requires only small keyhole incisions. Laparoscopy uses an instrument called a laparoscope to look at the abdominal organs.


What are the advantages of laparoscopic surgery over conventional surgery?

Laparoscopic surgery has the advantages of avoiding large open wounds or incisions and thus of decreasing blood loss, pain and discomfort. Patients are mobile within hours after surgery. They are also allowed to resume all activities much earlier than open surgery. It does not leave long scars over the abdomen as it requires only small keyhole incisions in the abdomen.


What is a day care surgery?

A Day Care Surgery, does not require the patient to stay in the hospital overnight. A day care surgery is defined as a procedure in which the patients undergo elective operation on the day of their admission and are discharged within 24 hours after surgery.


How often should I get checked by my doctor during my pregnancy?

In a normal pregnancy, you can be expected to come in for a check up on the following days:

• 4 weeks to 28 weeks: 1 visit/month
• 28 weeks to 36 weeks: 1 visit/2 weeks
• 36 weeks to 40 weeks: 1 visit/week

If it is a high-risk pregnancy such as twins, advanced age of women or a complicated pregnancy, the doctor may want to see you more often depending on your condition.
